| talkSPORT Presenter Profiles Meet the talkSPORT Presenters Nigel Pearson is talkSPORT's lead-commentator each Saturday afternoon alongside Stan Collymore for the station's live commentary from the Premier League on Matchday Live. Nigel joined talkSPORT, from Beacon FM, in 1997 when the station was Talk Radio with his initial role being reporter at Wolves matches in the First Division that were not live commentary matches. However, Nigel’s first work in radio was for BRMB in Birmingham in 1989 as a football reporter. He then moved to Beacon FM in 1996 where he presented their Saturday afternoon sports show and the drive time show on WABC. At talkSPORT, Nigel has risen to the role of presenter following many years as a reporter and commentator for the station. He presented Football First, replacing Adrian Durham in 2006, alongside Alvin Martin and Gary Stevens providing comprehensive coverage from the Premier League, Football League and Scottish Premier League. Nigel is also a regular presenter for talkSPORT’s Champions League coverage was alongside Rodney Marsh for the station’s commentaries at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. When he joined the station in 1997, Nigel never envisaged that he would become one of talkSPORT’s main football commentators covering games such as Real Madrid v Arsenal at the Bernabau Stadium in Madrid for Champions League Quarter-Finals: “I was happy just doing reports on a Saturday and mid-week but I've been delighted with the opportunities which have come my way. It's something I didn't really go looking for and my wife often accuses me of lacking ambition, so in the last year it's been great.” talkSPORT were an official broadcaster of the 2006 World Cup in Germany having secured broadcast rights to the tournament for the first time in the station’s history. Nigel was one of talkSPORT’s commentators in Germany and said before the tournament that it wil be a dream come true: “To be away for five weeks is a massive thing for me, both on a business scale and personally. I've never been away for that amount of time before, but I should be coming back a couple of times during the tournament to do my speedway commentary on Sky Sports. I don't think it will surprise anybody when I say it's the chance of a lifetime, a dream come true." In addition to his role at talkSPORT, Nigel is also the National Press Officer for British Speedway and is also the main-commentator for Speedway and Darts coverage on Sky Sports. He also works for several newspapers, magazines and also presents Walsall’s and West Brom's, the team he follows, ClubCall lines. |
