| talkSPORT Presenter Profiles Meet the talkSPORT Presenters Mike Parry co-presents with Andy Townsend from Monday to Friday between 10:00am-1:00pm discussing the day's biggest stories from the world of news and sport. Mike is a career journalist having worked for The Daily Express for over a decade as their Chief Foreign Correspondent, News Editor and United States Editor based in New York and Washington DC. Later, he joined The Sun as their Executive Editor and in 1994, he accepted an invitation to set up the media division of the Football Association with David Davies, who was one of Sven Goran Eriksson’s closest allies at the FA. In 1996, Mike left the Football Association to return to journalist as the Executive Editor of the national news agency, The Press Association. However, 3 years later in 1999, he accepted as position as Head of Sport at Talk Radio which was taken over by former Editor of The Sun a year earlier Kelvin MacKenzie. Mike was also part of the launch team of the UK’s only national commercial sports radio station talkSPORT in January 2000. In addition to his role at talkSPORT, Mike became more involved in the broadcasting side of the station as he made several appearances on It’s Just Like Watching Brazil with Alan Brazil before teaming up with Brazil on a permanent basis until August 2004 on The Sports Breakfast. Following the conclusion of Euro 2004, Mike was diagnosed with a heart condition and is on the register for a transplant. He stepped down from his roles at talkSPORT and has gone from working six days a week to just three but is ready to step-in on many sports programmes including Drive and The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast. Outside of work Mike spends a lot of his time following Everton, having been a supporter all of his life. He gets to most of their games in London but has also travelled to Bucharest and Villareal following the Toffees in the Champions League and UEFA Cup last season. His all-time favourite sports person is, surprisingly, Wayne Rooney despite him leaving Everton for Manchester United. He described him as a sensation and commended him for bringing back the feel good factor that had been missing from the club in previous years. Mike absolutely loves Wembley Stadium and the history that revolves around it. He went to his first FA Cup Final when he was 9 years old and saw Everton beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-2. Mike has never forgotten the first time he saw the Twin Towers and has adored the placed forever after. He still feels a warmth for the new Wembley Stadium and is glad to be back staging the FA Cup Final after six years in Cardiff. |
