Mike Mendoza, The Mike Mendoza Show
Mike Mendoza joined talkSPORT from LBC, after over 10 years at the station, in 2004 to present the weekend overnight show between 1:00am-6:00am every Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning.
Mike has been in the radio industry since 1970 first appearing on Radio I in Auckland in New Zealand on their overnight programme presenting a mix of music and talk. In 1971, he won the Radio Presenter of the Year Award, voted by listeners of the radio station. This was the first time that a night time presenter ever won such an award in New Zealand. Mike was soon promoted to the Radio I Breakfast Show.
Over the next few years Mike appeared in Radio Waves, which was a soap opera about a radio station, as well as Cabaret and various stage shows. Mike eventually moved to Australia to present breakfast shows on various radio stations and then decided he wanted to return to the UK where he found that it was almost impossible to get in radio. Luckily he received a phone call from a struggling radio station in Australia to offer him a breakfast show. He arranged for the station to pay the fares for him and Mike's entire family and to supply him with a home and a car. After completing his years contract in Australia, he wanted to return to New Zealand once again and was quickly offered another breakfast show in Palmerston North.

Mike goes on to say: “We always welcome feedback from listeners and with the growing audience outside the UK we are just having fun. The weekly link up with Al Rantel at KABC in California has had an amazing response from both sides of the Atlantic. The programme 12 months ago was for 1 hour per week, now we are on for 2 hours per week and a possibility that this will increase again in the near future. Health Guru Michael Van Straten joined the programme on a Monday morning a couple of months again and again, the response from listeners has been fantastic, we look forward to a long relationship with Michael” |
