Jon Gaunt, The John Gaunt Show

Jon Gaunt, presenter of talkSPORT’s mid-morning phone-in between 10:00am-1:00pm, is also a weekly columnist for the UK's largest selling newspaper The Sun every Tuesday.

Jon joined talkSPORT on a permanent basis in May 2006 and can be heard every weekday morning. He is one of the nation’s most outspoken broadcasters and columnists, and with controversial and engaging views on all manner of subjects, he is likely to spark lively debate and discussion. He is also a regular on Sky News to review the newspapers on Sky News at Ten or Sky News at Night.

His show on BBC London developed his hugely successful phone-in and current affairs format. Jon won the Gillard Gold for best interactive show on local radio in 2004 for the second year running, the only person on BBC London to achieve this prestigious award.

Jon's background in the media and performing arts is extremely varied and prolific. After graduating he founded the Tic Toc Theatre Company in 1984, a touring company funded by The Arts Council of Great Britain, which performed in almost every Arts Centre in Britain. A major promoter at the Edinburgh Fringe from 1982-1992, Jon promoted everyone from Harry Enfield to Frank Skinner and Mike Myers.

During this time he also devised, wrote and directed over ten small scale touring pantomimes that toured the West Midlands, playing the Dame himself in many of these productions, as well as later appearing in St. Albans production of Snow White. In 1986 he was awarded both an Edinburgh Fringe First Award and Perrier Pick of the Fringe for his play “Hooligans“. In 1992-1993, he went on to promote major dance events and rock concerts in Scotland. He has also toured with '"Jon Gaunt - Live and Unleashed”, which was a sell-out.

Additionally, Jon has raised funding of over one million pounds to create an Arts venue for Coventry, he's acted as a permanent member of the script writing team of Emmerdale on ITV for over two years and he's penned many scripts and other commissions for BBC Films, Yorkshire TV and the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
Before joining talkSPORT, Jon spent 4 years airing his views on BBC London. He joined BBC London in July 2001, presenting the lunchtime show. His profile then exploded in 2001, when he won three Sony Gold Awards: News Coverage Award, Breakfast News & Talk Award and News Broadcaster Award for his work on the BBC Three Counties Radio Breakfast Show. Jon can also be seen on our TV screens as a regular contributor on The Wright Stuff, The Dimbleby Show, Richard & Judy, BBC News and Inside Out.

Jon presented the Three Counties Breakfast Show from 1986-2001, building it into the highest rated all talk show in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire and culminating in a nomination for best All Talk Breakfast Show at the 2000 Sony Awards. The show was voted most popular and best radio show by readers of both the Luton News and the Milton Keynes Citizen. He has been nominated for further Sony's in both 2003 and 2004.
