Jim Proudfoot was born in the West Country in 1972, but was brought up in the Midlands where he managed to avoid gaining any strong allegiances to the local sides. He returned to the south-west and started his career on local radio, both as a football reporter and DJ.

Having qualified as a journalist, Jim moved to Teesside where he worked as a news reporter, covering Tony Blair's rise to leader of the Labour Party. In 1994, he joined the Capital Radio Group, for whom he commentated on Euro 96 and the 1998 World Cup. A 4-year stint saw him work in London, then as sports Editor on the South Coast, before being promoted to Chief Commentator on BRMB in Birmingham.

In 1998, Jim joined Century 104.5 in Manchester at their launch, commentating on Manchester United's historic treble winning season, including their Champions League Final 2-1 win against Bayern Munich in Barcelona. He also started reporting and commentating for Sky Sports, and was taken on as talkSPORTs number two commentator the following year behind lead-commentary Alan Parry.

Jim was part of talkSPORT's groundbreaking team covering Euro 2000, and was promoted to senior commentator at the station in time for the 2002 World Cup. He remains the only person in there twenties to have commentated on an England international for both national radio and television.

In 2004, Jim became an integral part of Sky Sports coverage of the Premier League and Champions League commentating on some of the biggest games and has since moved to Setanta Sports as commentator on their SPL overage. Jim also remains a key figure of talkSPORT's football coverage as lead-commentator in the Champions League, including the Final in 2007 and 2008 and during the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Jim is a massive Torquay United fan and was seen dancing in the streets when they were promoted to the Second Division at the end 2003/2004 season and is the only Torquay fan who was saddened about rivals Exeter City being relegated out of the Football League to the Conference, but has since seen his beloved team go the same way and now play their football outside of the Football League.
