Former Republic of Ireland Captain, co-hosts talkSPORT’s Weekend Sports Breakfast with former Fleet Street journalist Mike Parry from Monday to Friday between 10:00am-1:00pm.

Andy played at the highest level at both domestic and International level, leading the Republic of Ireland into the knockout stages of the 1990 World Cup in Italy and the 1994 World Cup in the United States. Andy won 70 caps and captained his country a record number of times. He also played in the Premiership for Chelsea, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough before injury forced him to retire from the game in 2000, following a short spell back in the West Midlands with West Bromwich Albion. At Aston Villa for five seasons, he won the League Cup twice.

Years of top flight experience means that Andy understands what competition is about and what makes a player tick and since retiring from the game landed a role as one of ITV’s main pundits on their football coverage. Andy has worked on the
On the Ball show and provided studio analysis for ITV’s coverage of the Premiership, FA Cup, Champions League, 2002 and 2006 World Cup and Euro 2004 in Portugal. Andy always offers and opinion and you will never find him sitting on the fence for either ITV or talkSPORT.

His career highlight is, apart from meeting the Pope during the 1990 World Cup, is in the United States for the 1994 world Cup. Every member of the Republic of Ireland squad, including talkSPORT’s Ray Houghton, bleached their hair blonde. As well as football, Andy is a massive fan of rock music and can play the guitar.

He has been to a great number of concerts and gigs over the years and is a massive fan of U2 and The Rolling Stones. He can also often be heard talking about his favourite bands with Mike Parry on The Weekend Sports Breakfast but obviously wishes he could do it with someone more knowledgeable about the subject! But he has interviewed some of the biggest names in the world sport in recent months with Sven Goran-Eriksson and David Beckham appearing on The Weekend Sports Breakfast.

Andy Townsend can be heard from Monday to Friday between 10:00am-1:00pm with Mike Parry on talkSPORT. You can also hear Andy Townsend on ITV's Champions League coverage each Tuesday night during the competition throughout the season and during the World Cup and European Championships on both ITV and talkSPORT.
